Nasturtium 'Empress of India' (Tropaeolum majus)
Empress of India nasturtium is a self-seeding, semi-trailing, easy to grow annual that displays brilliant scarlet red flowers with a pleasant aroma. Plants form lovely, billowing 2 ft. mounds of deep blue-green leaves. The long-spurred flowerblossoms attract hummingbirds, and the young nasturtium leaves and flowers are edible and add a delicious peppery flavor to salads. And although they are edible rabbits don't care for them. They thrive in full sun to partial shade and grow very well in poor, dry soils from early spring to late fall, making them one of the best mild-weather annual flowers for your garden.
