Poppy, 'Drama Queen' (Papaver somniferum)
Poppies prefer a cool climate over hot weather. They grow best in loose, well drained soil. Scatter seeds during the fall or early spring as soon as the last winter snow recedes. Starting poppies at the edge of melting snow is recommended. These gorgeous multi-colored flowers will produce 4" - 6" breathtaking blooms in hues of violet and red that shimmer in the sun. The delicate petals are silk-like and fringed towards the outer layer. The plants display an attractive green foliage and will reach a mature height of 24" -36" tall. Drama Queen Poppies are known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, ladybugs, and even hummingbirds. Freeze seeds for 48 hours before sowing to increase the germination rate. Full sun to partial shade.
