Summer Lilac, or Butterfly Bush, is a fast-growing, deciduous shrub that has an upright, stretching habit, capable of reaching 10+ ft or more. This feral variety is noted for its vigor, floriforousness, and for being drought tolarent. It produces long, arching branches with tapering spires of massed, fragrant flowers- this cultivars are violet-purple-red and 8"- 12" long and bloom from early summer to the first frost. Flowering will continue into fall (if deadheaded). It helps germination rates to pre-chill or freeze seeds a few weeks prior to planting. These are highly attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds and bees!
