Columbine is a hardy perennial that grows roots and foliage during its first year of growth in preparation for its abundant blooms during its second year. The graceful, nodding flowers rise high above clumps of delicately lobed leaves, and are a beacon of attraction for hummingbirds and bumblebees. Columbine has a fairly long bloom time from late spring through summer. Columbine seeds must have a cold period of three to four weeks before germination will occur. To increase germination rates keep the seeds in the refrigerator before sowing in the spring, or simply plant seeds in the fall and let nature take its course. One can also freeze the seeds for 48 hours before sowing. Does best in full sun to part shade.
Mix of Munstead White, European Pink, and European Purple flowers.
